  1. Line a baking tray with parchment paper
  2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  3. In a small bowl, combine the egg and buttermilk
  4. In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon
  5. Cut the shortening into small pieces, keeping it cold
  6. Combine the shortening into the dry mixture, breaking it up with your fingers until the shortening breaks down into pea-sized pieces
  7. Pour the buttermilk and egg mixture into the dry ingredients
  8. Mix in the chocolate and raspberries
  9. Mix everything together until just combined – do not over mix
  10. Turn out onto a floured surface and cut into 12 pieces about 1 ½ inches thick
  11. Bake on the baking sheet for 20 minutes
