Directions
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- In a small bowl, combine the egg and buttermilk
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon
- Cut the shortening into small pieces, keeping it cold
- Combine the shortening into the dry mixture, breaking it up with your fingers until the shortening breaks down into pea-sized pieces
- Pour the buttermilk and egg mixture into the dry ingredients
- Mix in the chocolate and raspberries
- Mix everything together until just combined – do not over mix
- Turn out onto a floured surface and cut into 12 pieces about 1 ½ inches thick
- Bake on the baking sheet for 20 minutes
